A special event has been organised at Swansea College to encourage more students to take up voluntary work.
The Volunteering Fayre takes place at the college Sports Centre on 1st June and will involve participation from around 15 local and national organisations such as the Swansea Council for Voluntary Service [SCVS], Age Concern and Global Exchange.
The Fayre will give students the chance to find out more about volunteering opportunities both in their local community and abroad.
"A lot of our courses, such as the Welsh Baccalaureate, now involve an element of volunteering but we are really keen to raise the profile among the rest of the student body," says college Enrichment Manager Rob Baynham. "This event will be a good opportunity for students to meet groups who are looking for volunteers and to identify ways they can get additional volunteering accreditation, such as the Millennium Volunteers Award."
Swansea College has worked in partnership with SCVS to organise this event.
"We are pleased to work in partnership with Swansea College to organise this event and open up the world of volunteering to young people," says Director of SCVS Carol Green. "The contribution of young volunteers to the sector in Swansea is invaluable, both for the organisations who benefit and for the young people who give their time."
The event coincides with National Volunteers' Week, which aims to raise the profile of the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society while hopefully inspiring others to get involved too.
