An educational link-up between Swansea College and ABM University NHS Trust is already proving a hit with staff and helping the city's hospitals stay clean.
Domestic staff from Morriston, Singleton and Cefn Coed hospitals have been working towards their NVQ Level 1 in Cleaning and Support Services with the help of assessors from the Business College in Llansamlet.
The City and Guilds qualification covers health and safety, handling chemicals, cleaning standards and developing teamwork.
After just six months of after-work studying, 22 members of staff have picked up certificates and over 20 are still working towards the qualification.
"The domestic staff have worked really hard to achieve this City and Guilds qualification and we felt it was important to formally recognise their success," says Hospitality assessor Claire Morgan. "Hopefully they will now go on to take the level 2 qualification in the New Year."
"This is the first time that all our domestic staff have had the opportunity to complete a qualification of this type," adds NHS Support Services Manager Rob Daniel. "Importantly, it means our staff have a recognised standard of qualification that we've been able to tailor to our own needs. It takes their skills and knowledge to another level."
