Centre site earmarked for revamp

A FORMER distribution centre in the Swansea Valley could be developed into a series of light industrial units.

Developers Eatonfield Holdings have drawn up plans to develop the former GMF Distribution centre at Glanyrafon into a mix of housing, light industrial and commercial uses.

The company wants to develop the large empty building on the site, which also covers the area once used by the now-demolished Dewhurst factory, into seven light industry nursery units between 2,200 sq ft and 12,000 sq ft.

They also propose improving the external appearance of the building and landscaping work.

An application has been submitted to Neath Port Talbot Council.
Ystalyfera county councillor Alun Llewelyn has held discussions of the proposals with developers.

He said: "When outline planning permission was granted last year, it was accepted that the Glanyrafon site had a great deal of potential for Ystalyfera, but should not be used only for housing, since there was considerable demand for industrial and commercial units in the valley, which have the potential to create local jobs.

"This new application gives more details of the developers
