Prize is all wrapped up at new firm By Rob Westall
A BUSINESS born after a mum gave birth to her first child has picked up a new prize.
Pontarddulais baby carrier company Rose and Rebellion has toddled off with the first monthly Swansea Marriott and Evening Post Business Award for January.
The award is being supported by the West Wales Chamber of Commerce, Swansea University's School of Business and Economics, and Swansea Bay Partnership.
Rose and Rebellion owners David and his 28-year-old wife, Louise Leigh, of Glanffrwd Road, have their two-year-old daughter Daisy to thank for their "eureka" moment.
Driving Miss Daisy in her buggy proved to be such an ordeal that the couple looked at alternative transport methods for her.
"It was obvious to us that a baby carrier was the way to go," said David.
"Faced with a market full of uncomfortable, unpractical and dowdy looking carriers, Louise took it upon herself to design and create the Rose and Rebellion baby and toddler carrier."
It can accommodate children from three months to four years old.
Each baby carrier has been made to distribute the child's weight evenly over the wearer's body.
"A comfortable child is a happy child and that's what we've aimed for with our baby carriers," said Louise.
"I find it great especially when I'm doing the shopping."
David added: "The business was started following both our graduations from Swansea University and has received invaluable help both financially and practically from a number of local business services and funding schemes."
"Our baby carriers shun the traditional utility approach to design within the baby transportation sector."
The business launched officially at this years BPA trade show in the NEC to an extremely positive and enthusiastic response.
Following on from this, baby retail businesses from all over the UK and Ireland have started to stock their products.
It's great to win this award and we are grateful to everyone who helped make it possible," added David.
"We hope we can help educate people to the benefits of baby carrying and as such are looking for local mother and baby groups and classes who may wish to receive a demonstration of how our products work and the benefits to both mother and child."
